Description
Hand-carved and hand-sanded spectacled bear figure crafted from sustainable Ecuadorian balsa wood. Lightweight and smooth, each piece is left unpainted to invite creativity, allowing it to be painted, decorated, and transformed into a one-of-a-kind creation.
The spectacled bear (the only bear species native to South America) lives in the Andean mountains and cloud forests of countries like Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. It is named after the distinctive light markings around its eyes, which can resemble glasses.
These bears play an important ecological role as seed dispersers, helping maintain the health and regeneration of Andean forests. However, they are considered vulnerable due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and human expansion into their natural environments.
Each figure is individually hand-carved by artisan families, meaning no two bears are exactly alike. A creative piece designed to connect imagination, art, and awareness of Andean wildlife.
