Description
Where craftsmanship meets creativity. This ballpoint pen is hand-carved and hand-painted from sustainably sourced Ecuadorian balsa wood, transforming an everyday writing tool into a small piece of functional art.
The design is inspired by the Phyllobates picturatus, commonly known as a picturatus poison dart frog, native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, including regions with similar ecosystems to Ecuador’s Amazon. These small frogs are known for their striking, colorful patterns, which serve as a warning in nature to potential predators about their toxicity.
Despite their small size, picturatus frogs play an important ecological role in rainforest ecosystems, helping regulate insect populations and serving as indicators of environmental health due to their sensitivity to habitat changes and pollution.
Each pen is individually crafted by Ecuadorian artisan families, meaning no two pieces are exactly alike. Designed for replaceable ink cartridges, it offers long-term usability while reducing waste from disposable pens. A functional, collectible object that connects writing, wildlife, and traditional craftsmanship.
